Welcome!

Thanks for stopping by! I created this website with the goal of helping students practice, study, or review things we learn in class at home.  Use the links at the top of the page to navigate the website. The student resources page contains songs, lyrics, recordings, and other tools to help students practice at home.

Parents and Families

Please feel free to contact me by clicking on the the "Contact Me" link at the top of the page.  You can then fill out the form (which is quick and easy!) or you will find the school address and phone number.  Thank you for your support of our school and for supporting your students' musical interests!

About Ms. Speakmon

My name is Samantha Speakmon and I am the music teacher at Junction City Elementary School in Junction City, Ohio.  Junction City is part of the New Lexington City School District.  Although this is my first year at JCE, I have been teaching for 3 years and previously taught in Springfield City Schools in Springfield, Ohio.  I spent my undergrad studying at Ohio Wesleyan University, where I received my bachelor's degree in music education.  I have traveled many places to experience music, such as Austria (NOT Austrailia!), located in Europe, and New York City to work with a famous composer named Eric Whitacre!  Last year, 6 of my students from Springfield performed with Kenny Rogers in his Christmas Special!  I began taking piano lessons in 3rd grade and have been involved with music since!  I can also play other instruments such as the trumpet and french horn, and did many activities in school like choir, band, marching band, musicals, colorguard, dance team, and sports!  I hope you enjoy music like I do, even if it's playing an instrument, singing, or just listening!

My Philosophy and Goals

I believe that all students have the ability to be creative and should be provided with experiences that allow them to try different things.  I also believe that music is a part of everyone's life in some way, shape, or form.  Therefore, I believe it is important to help students develop their musical skills and provide them with the tools to explore their interests and creativity, should music be a life-long path they choose to pursue.  Whether students choose to pursue music or not, being involved in a group reading, playing, or creating music encourages teamwork, persistence, and fun!
